CMC Motorcycles are an award winning, family run motorcycle dealership based in the Midlands, selling used motorcycles, new Yamaha bikes, clothing, helmets and accessories as well as providing services and MOTs.
It has always been the duty of the staff at the CMC branches and their independent Health & Safety Consultant to assess, manage and maintain the safety of all of CMC’s equipment and that in itself is quite a task. CMC have a wide range of assets within each of their sites, where they accommodate both a workshop and showroom environment. It was clear that CMC would benefit from using an asset management system that could put all the details of these assets in one easy-to-access place. This way the assets could be more easily listed, managed and maintained.
A lot of CMC’s equipment, particularly in the workshop, requires regular and vital inspections so a system that makes this process structured and thorough was essential. CMC’s asset list includes a variety of specialist workshop equipment including heavy duty machinery, lifting equipment, bench drills, grinders, welding equipment and oil handling equipment. But they also must maintain and inspect more commonly used assets such as fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, fire doors, roller shutter doors and fire exit signs.
Installation of the HiViz Asset Manager saw CMC’s independent Health and Safety Consultant from Prosafe (UK) Ltd do a sweep of each site to identify the assets that would need future inspection. As an asset was identified the asset details were typed onto the system, including name, detailed asset description, its location and an inspection frequency. A QR code label was then printed out for each item and then the label was stuck on or near the item. The code was then scanned using a mobile phone with a QR code reader and the first inspection was carried out, by answering the simple questions prompted by the system.
CMC now have the HiViz Asset Manager fully installed and doing it’s job. It is providing structure to the asset inspection schedule which ensures that item inspections are not missed and maintenance is kept to a high standard. If asset issues are identified they are reported directly to the designated person so problems are resolved quickly and efficiently and equipment is always running safely and effectively. The HiViz Asset Manager is leaving behind it a clear audit trail for the wider business to potentially spot patterns in maintenance issues and provide accountability for any actions associated with each asset.
CMC Motorcyles have now rolled out the HiViz Asset Manager to all 4 of their UK sites.
